LUCKNOW UNIVERSITY (LU) administration rejected student leaders’ request to ignore the age- restriction clause in the forthcoming LUSU poll. V-C RP Singh reiterated that the students’ union poll would be held as per Supreme Court guidelines and no compromises would be made on the issue. The poll dates would be finalised on the first week of the next month and the entire election process would be completed between October 15 and October 20, the V-C said.

After 25 hours of long wait, student leaders finally had a meeting with V-C that only left them disappointed. The much-awaited meeting did not last even for 15 minutes as the V-C, specifically told student leaders that he would strictly adhere to SC directives as non- adherence of the SC ruling would amount to contempt of court. This statement of the V-C left the student leaders dejected whose only plea was to waive off the age restriction in the LUSU poll. “LU is in a favour of completing the entire election process in a quick time so that teaching work do not suffer a much. Also, less time would ensure that student leaders would not be able to spend much in the campaigning process,” sources said.
