Authorities at Taj on Tuesday announced that the dollar will not be accepted at the ticket counters at this tourist attraction.

Visitors can purchase entry tickets with Indian rupees only. However, citizens of the SAARC nations and of Thailand and Mynamar will be allowed entry into the Taj by paying Rs 20 per person. The charge from domestic visitors is the same. Foreigners are charged an entry fee of Rs 750.

A final notification on currency and rate of entry was issued on Tuesday, after the union law ministry favoured the proposal to dispense with sale of entry tickets against dollars, ASI officials said.

“The dollar is not being accepted from today and information to this effect has been placed at Taj gates,” said RK Dixit, the official in-charge for ASI at Taj Mahal.
