A madrassa teacher arrested in Bihar as a suspect in the Mumbai train bombings has been released after no evidence was found against him.
Mohammad Akram, a teacher in a madrassa in Mysore, Karnataka, was released Sunday after police found nothing on him following intensive interrogations by state and Intelligence Bureau officials.
"Akram was interrogated for two days but nothing come out of it," admitted Gaya Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar Jain.
Akram was arrested last week Friday from Dangra village in Gaya district because he resembled one of the two suspects whose sketches were put out by Mumbai Police.
The Karnataka seminary teacher had claimed he was innocent and had nothing to do with the serial blasts in Mumbai in which about 200 people died and over 700 were injured.
Two other people from Bihar have been held for their alleged involvement in the terror attack.
Khalil Aziz and Mohammad Kalam from Madhubani district were picked by IB sleuths last week Thursday and remanded to police custody in Mumbai.
In other related developments, state Home Secretary Afzal Amanullah Sunday night rushed to New Delhi after the central government summoned him following the arrests in Bihar.
According to sources, the union home ministry has also asked the Bihar government to explain what measures it had taken against Islamic terrorists and their connection with SIMI, the Islamic students' association widely believed to be the breeding ground for aspiring terrorists.
