The ABVP, the students' wing of the BJP, has promised to abandon violence this Valentine's Day. Instead, they will force all couples caught cosying up in public to get married.

Why? Because "Marriage is the best Indian way to celebrate Valentine's Day," says Anshuman Choubey, general secretary, ABVP. "If couples claim to be in love, we have a permanent solution to that. If a couple is caught in public, we will take them to a police station, call up their parents and persuade them to marry off their children" he adds.

The VHP's district president Rajiv Ranjan feels the same way. "Violence will not be our stand this time. Marriage of lovers is a better option if parents are willing." The local administration has also decided to play moral police. A police contingent has already been deployed in parks and other open areas in the city to keep a check on 'activities' of couples there.
