There will be no fare hike in Delhi Metro rail for the next two years, a spokesman of the DMRC said in New Delhi on Tuesday.

Asked whether the Metro would consider increasing the fare to compensate for the damage to its train coaches incurred during violence as was witnessed during last week's traders bandh, DMRC spokesman Anuj Dayal told reporters that fares are going to be fixed by the fare fixation committee.
For the next two years, the fare is not going to be increased in any case, he added.
Concerned over Metro becoming the object of ire, project authorities plan a series of public mobilization measures, including street theatre, against such acts, Dayal said.
In view of the damage to Metro coaches when protestors indulged in stone-pelting on Seelampur-Shahdara stretch of the rail network, there are plans to put a wire mesh along the four-kilometre section, Dayal said.
"We are sending our senior officials to the masses to inculcate a sense of pride in the Metro," Dayal said.
Among the other measures being taken are utilising the services of street theatre groups to sensitise people about the legal implications of attacking a public property like the Metro.
Under the Delhi Metro Operation and Maintainence Act, heavy penalty ranging from 10 years up to life imprisonment can be imposed on those causing damage to trains and this will be communicated to the people, he said.
