“Whatever be the changes in the central government, there will not be anybody from DMK becoming a cabinet minister or minister of state,” he said.

DMK has become the largest partner of the Congress-led UPA with 18 Lok Sabha MPs following the exit of Trinamool Congress.

The party has not chosen any replacements in the Union cabinet following the resignations of its ministers A Raja and Dayanidhi Maran.

Raja resigned as telecom minister in November 2010 after he was charged with irregularities in 2G spectrum scam. Maran had to quit as textiles minister in July 2011. His resignation came after the CBI told the Supreme Court that Maran, as telecom minister in 2006, “forced” telecom promoter C Sivasankaran to sell his stake in Chennai-based Aircel to Malaysia-based Maxis.
