“The Information Commission disposed of more than 2000 cases since its implementation. Not even a single case came before the Commission which justified the allegation that RTI Act was misused,” Kejariwal said and added that most of judgments were pronounced on the cases filed by officials and employees for their exploitation.

He was speaking in a seminar on ‘Role of NGOs in Dissemination of RTI Act’ in Varanasi on Sunday evening.

He said the RTI Act had generated a sense of fear among some bureaucrats but on the other side, it was also benefiting the administrative officials. He further added that there was a big responsibility to make people aware about the importance of RTI Act.

Kejariwal said RIT act was a well-equipped law with the capability of benefiting people from all walks of society. He said long pending works of common people have been solved through this act. “People can not get information about the secret information related with Intelligence department and Defence”, he said, adding, people can get any sort of information related with corruption and human rights.”
