Doctors say it is time to keep your body fit and fine, especially when there are poor sanitation conditions all around with waterlogging running upto 25 days at a stretch.

Even as the blame game between Health Department and Nagar Nigam officials goes on ritualistically, doctors say forewarned is forearmed and give tips for a disease-free monsoon.

Joint secretary of Indian Medical Association Dr PK Gupta says children are more vulnerable to hyperpyrexia. This is a condition where high fever is associated with a running nose. Water- borne problems, like Hepatitis E and A become common during this season and so do other viral infections.

Water at the swimming pool is yet another cause of worry for those who are used to swimming.

At the pools where bleaching agents are mixed in less than 1-PPM may spread infection while people collectively swim. It has been observed that pool owners mix the agent in .5-PPM ratio, which is dangerous, Dr Gupta says.

“While Nagar Nigam keeps extra precaution over garbage disposal and drinking water, we are concentrating on awareness up till the village level,” says deputy CMO, Dr UK Gupta.

Dr Mudit Goyal gives some Ayurvedic tips to help your system during the monsoon. The digestive system gets weakened due to dehydration during the summer. This slows down digestive power. Light foods prepared from barley, rice and wheat are welcome, he says and adds, “ sour and salted soups of vegetables, spiced with ginger and green gram in daily diet can do wonders.” The best way is to take completely boiled vegetables.
