THE MUSLIMS in the state have decided to observe the Babri Masjid demolition day on Wednesday by offering prayers in mosques and madarsas.
There is a feeling in the community that any angry demonstration may give the rival forces an opportunity to politically capitalise on the issue. Only the Muslim League has announced to hold a day-long dharna outside the Vidhan Bhawan.
Talking to HT, AIMPLB member and Naib Imam Eidgah Maulana Khalid Rashid said no agitation or black-flag demonstrations would be organised on December 6.
Similarly, reports from Kanpur, which has seen angry demonstrations in the past, said the Qaumi Mushawart Committee headed by Abul Barkat Najmi had also given a call for holding prayer meetings in mosques. There would be no public demonstration. On the other hand, the Bajrang Dal and the Shiv Sena will be celebrating the day as “Shaurya Diwas” by lighting lamps in temples and bursting firecrackers. The VHP is organising a function in Ayodhya to celebrate the day.
The state government has, meanwhile, tightened security in sensitive districts in the State. Instructions have been issued to keep vigil around all religious places.

The eight-point memorandum laying stress on a fresh notification and punishment to the conspirators of the demolition also asks the CM to withdraw the “bullet proofing” plan around the sanctum sanctorum in Ayodhya. It also asks the government to maintain status quo and stop mobilisation of people at the disputed site.mhasan@hindustantimes.com
