Due to delay in submission of the list of the nominees, no Bihar police personnel will receive the President's medal for distinguished and meritorious performances in this year's Republic Day, prompting Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to express surprise over such delay.

The development took place close on the heels of the Centre's rejecting Bihar's tableau for display at the Republic day parade in New Delhi.

Official sources said on Thursday that though the state police headquarters had on November 10 sent a proposal for honouring 12 policemen for their distinguished work and 16 for meritorious performances, the state Home Department could not forward it to the Centre, certain documents were required to be produced in support of the recommendations.

Expressing surprise over the delay which prevented the police personnel from getting medals in recognition of their performances, the chief minister said the proposal should have been sent during the President's rule.

"It is a matter of serious concern. I will look into the matter personally", he said.

This is for the second year in a row that the tableau from Bihar would not be displayed at the Republic Day function as the theme chosen by the state government has failed to get the clearance of the defence ministry.
