"We have not given any proposal nor have we received any," Singh told reporters referring to a media report saying his party might join the central government reversing its earlier position of supporting the government from outside.

Asked specifically if he would be a minister in the union cabinet, he said "ask Manmohan Singh, Sonia Gandhi and Mulayam Singh Yadav. It is not such a thing as can be had through application. I have not applied for a ministership. Newspapers have made me a minister."

Singh was speaking to the press after meeting Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee at her residence in south Kolkata.

Emerging from the meeting, Singh told newsmen along with Mamata that he had not come to meet her as an emissary of Congress. "I am here in my personal capacity. My relation with Mamata dates back to a long time."

He said SP would fully back the issues raised by Mamata in Parliament.
