Outgoing MP from Bikramganj, Kanti Singh tells Sarita Singh the challenges she faces in Ara and how she would get over them.

Despite being a seating MP from Bikramganj, why are you contesting from Ara?
It was the demand of the people of Ara and also the directive of the party chief. Besides, Ara is not new to me. I was elected to the state assembly from Piro.
Does changing place indicate fear of defeat?
There is no question of defeat. Despite adverse circumstances in 1999, I was elected an MP. I was chosen MLA from the Piro constituency and since 1996 I have been an MP. There is also no pressure on me. I have taken this decision to boost the feeling of commitment in the party.
How do you plan to defeat the NDA?
The commitment of NDA has turned flat. Besides exposing their hollow promises about building the Ayodhya temple and wiping out communal forces, my primary focus will be to strengthen secular forces and remove social malpractices.
If the secular parties secure a majority whom would you like to see as the PM?
The secular parties will decide about the PM. Laloo has already declared his intention to make Sonia the PM. In due course of time, Laloo can also become the PM.
As a woman MP, do you have any new project or plan for the welfare of women?
The dwindling population of females due to foeticide is a matter of immense concern. If the secular parties come to power it will try to stop this practice immediately. Awareness about it will also be created. Efforts will also be made to make women economically and educationally independent. Action against issues like rape and dowry is also under the plan.

Will the revolt by disgruntled elements within the RJD affect the party’s performance in the polls?
Such trivial matters will not affect the party’s performance in the polls. The revolt is only by those who did not get ticket. Such persons can never be devoted to any party.
What will be your priorities for the Ara parliamentary constituency after winning the election?
Bhojpur district has many problems. The Veer Kuer Singh University is still not affiliated to the UGC. Besides, there is immense pressure for making Ara into a commissionary. Industries are not developed here. I will try my best to solve these problems.
After Ara will you shift to some other place again next time?
I am a devoted party worker. I will fight from whichever place the party chief decides. It also depends on the demand of the people.
