No reprieve for Barnala's son in rape case

The judge further remanded the MLA from Dhuri assembly constituency to judicial custody till September 11.

Shiromani Akali Dal MLA Gaganjit Singh Barnala, accused of raping his maid, on Monday, failed to get any reprieve from a court in Chandigarh as it extended his judicial remand till September 11.

Gaganjit, son of Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala, was produced in the court of judicial magistrate Harpreet Kaur after his 14 days of judicial remand ended today.

The judge further remanded the MLA from Dhuri assembly constituency to judicial custody till September 11.

Scores of supporters of Gaganjit shouted slogans outside as well as inside the court premises when the police brought him for appearance in the court.

Gaganjit, was arrested by police on August 12 after the woman, who worked as a maid at his apartment, alleged he had raped her.
