Subscribers to the BSNL's mobile network complained of network failure since Friday evening. Thousands of BSNL mobile phones went dead on Sunday and Monday between 5 am and 9 pm.

They were even unable to call on BSNL landline phones and even mobile to mobile call on BSNL connections was out of reach.

The mobile services were hit because of installation of new Main Switching Centre at Civil Lines campus .

However Anil Kumar Gupta, Deputy General Manager, BSNL, said that the network problem occurred because of energisation of Main Switching Centre (MSC) here. All three base switching centres of the city that earlier were connected to Kanpur had now been hooked to the centre at Allahabad.

With this new MSC the capacity has become four lakhs that would cover Pratapgrah and Kaushambi districts. It may be recalled that the BSNL mobile service was badly hit for last two years because of network congestion.
