THE WORKERS of the Duncan Industries Limited (DIL) are suffering due to the non-payment of salaries since January 2006.
After the closure of the plant on October 18, 2005, both the workers and the executives of the company were given salaries till December 2005. But from January 2006 onwards DIL management had stopped the payment of salaries on grounds of financial crisis.
According to the workers’ union, despite the DIL management had claimed that the salaries of both the workers and the executives had been stopped, all the senior executives of the company were being paid regularly.
District Congres president Abdul Mannan, who is also an employee at DIL said, “Workers are being deceived by the management. No salary has been given to them since January whereas all the senior executives of the company are getting their salary regularly.” The management has being lying to hundreds of workers despite the fact that they were the worst sufferers during the lockout period, added Mannan.
Earlier, a three-and-a-half years of lockout period was over on July 1, 2005 and the production was officially resumed on August 1, 2005 under the presence of the CM. But barely after one-and-half months , production was stopped again on October 18, 2005.
Initially, restructuring of subsidy was cited as an apparent reason for cessation of production. Later, the increased cost of Naphtha in the global market was cited as the reason for delay in resumption of production. But this problem was solved by the Indian Oil Corporation which supplied Naphtha to DIL. Now, the only alibi being offered by the DIL management for the non-resumption of production was financial crisis.

{{/usCountry}}However, several employees are associated with parties, but till date they have refrained from interfering in the matter. But now, it seems that these politically-connected employees are loosing patience. Apart from Mannan, former district chief of the BJP Dinesh Rai is also an employees of DIL. “We are keeping a close watch on the turn of events at DIL. If CITU is not able to do anything in near future then we will intervene in the matter,” stated Mannan. Even help of the union government could be solicited to resolve the issue, added Mannan.
