No solution, residents get only assurances

There seems to be no respite from traffic jams for residents of DLF City (Phase 4) and Sushant Lok. People of these localities are virtually under house arrest ever since a one-way traffic plan was put in force around Galleria and Super Mart shopping complexes recently.

The local residents’ welfare association (RWA), led by social group Gurgaon Citizen Council (GCC), met senior Gurgaon traffic police officials to discuss the issue on Monday. The department, however, refused to revoke the plan for now and assured residents that a solution will be found soon.

The RWA representatives met deputy commissioner of police (traffic) Bharti Arora and brought to her notice the snarls that have become a daily feature, as a fallout of the one-way traffic plan.

The city police's effort to ease traffic at busy market places such as Galleria and Super Mart has created more trouble for residents of nearby areas.

“Arora told us that she will look into the matter and find a solution. However, no concrete steps were suggested by the police,” said MM Bhalla, former president of Hamilton Court RWA.

“With this one-way traffic plan, it has become difficult to reach the Metro station and highway. Earlier, I had to hardly had to travel a kilometre but now I have to take a mandatory right turn and drive more than three kilometres,” he further rued. RS Rathee, president of GCC, said all 30-metre wide roads around Galleria Market and Super Mart had been made one-way which was against the zoning plan of the city.

“We are trying to find a solution to the problem. It will take a few days for the situation to normalise,” said Arora.
