There is no 'specific' alert that terrorists could take advantage of the monsoon to strike again in Mumbai, the police in Mumbai and Maharashtra Minister of State for Home Affairs Naseem Khan said on Wednesday.
"There is no such alert or tip-off. Whatever security measures are currently in place are as a matter of routine," Khan told IANS, referring to reports indicating increased security at some railway stations, a prominent bank and other vital installations.
It was just 'routine precaution, nothing more than that,' the minister added.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Law & Order) KL Prasad also dismissed contentions that Mumbai could be targeted during the ongoing monsoon.
"Moving personnel from one location to another is part of our normal exercises, it cannot be construed that there is a threat of terror attacks," Prasad said.
State Director-General of Police (Operations) J Umranikar, who is in-charge of the Anti-Terrorist Squad, Anti-Naxalite Squad and other specialized agencies, denied knowledge of any such alleged terror threat to Mumbai, but nevertheless assured that he would look into the matter.
A section of the media, quoting unidentified Intelligence Bureau (IB) sources, Wednesday reported that three railway stations, a prominent bank and three other sites could be possible targets of terrorists and that security has been increased following the alert.
