Indian athletes are facing a tough time getting London Games tickets for their support staff, who failed to get accreditation, and family members.
The archers wanted a ticket for their physiotherapist for Saturday's match, but couldn't get one. “We had requested the IOA as we wanted the physio in the playing arena, but all in vain,” said an archery player.
Before leaving for London, the IOA had informed the players that they could purchase two tickets each for their event. “Despite putting up our request, we are not getting tickets,” said a shooter. Even tennis star Mahesh Bhupathi tried his best to get a ticket for his wife (Lara Dutta). “Been trying for 6 hours now to buy my wife a ticket to watch me play. Still no luck, and the grounds here feel empty. ABSURD!!!” he tweeted.
When contacted, acting chef-de-mission, PK Muralidharan Raja said, “Players can purchase two tickets. But they have to place a request with the IOA at least 48 hours in advance. Last-minute requests cannot be entertained.”
