The Noida police will probe allegations of illegally detaining an eight months old pregnant woman in a case of loot.
The police on Sunday claimed to have arrested Lata, wife of prime suspect Neetu Gujjar, on Saturday, it refused to reveal where she was being kept. Lata's family alleged she was picked up on Friday. The police on Monday claimed the woman had reached home.
"We will inquire if there was any human rights violation. If any officer is found breaking the law, serious action will be taken against him," said Ashok Kumar, superintendent of police (rural).
HT is in possession of a video recording where police officers are talking about the manner in which the woman was brought to the police station.
"We will also examine the authenticity of the video clipping and action will be taken if any cop is found bending the rules," Kumar said.
Lata suffered an anxiety attack and complained of pain in the abdomen after being taken away by the police, who had to shift her to a district hospital.
When the hospital discharged Lata on Sunday afternoon, the police took her to an undisclosed destination to "keep an eye" on her. They moved Lata out using the hospital's rear gate, raising further suspicion.
On Monday the police claimed to have recovered Rs 12,000 from Lata. This is part of the Rs 12.57 lakh looted from the cashier of a petrol pump in Greater Noida sometime back. Her husband is wanted for the robbery.

{{/usCountry}}The Noida police claimed Lata was involved in the loot. "She has been in touch with her husband. She was arrested on Saturday but we immediately released her on bail, seeing her critical condition," said Praveen Kumar, senior superintendent of police.
"She complained of pain, so we took her to a hospital. Doctors discharged her. She is at home now."
