A year after a CWG cycling event was held here, the Noida-Greater Noida region has taken another big leap.

"It's a historic day. About 20 years after Greater Noida came into being as a quieter neighbourhood of Noida, the city has finally come of age," said Greater Noida chief executive officer Rama Raman.

With India's maiden Grand Prix kicking off on Friday, the organisers are already taking of the future events. More such races have been planned on the racing track. Moto GP and other motorsport events will also be held at the state-of-the-art Buddh International Circuit (BIC), spread across 875 acres. With these, the region will emerge, on the international map, as a hub for motor sports and the automotive industry. "We have left nothing to chance because our country's reputation is at stake," said Manoj Gaur, executive chairman, Jaypee group.

With an investment of Rs 1,700 crore, the race weekend (Oct 28-30) is expected to generate businesses worth around Rs 10,000 crore in sectors such as hospitality, advertisements, travel and ticket revenue. With more than 100,000 spectators expected during the three days, the Grand Prix revenue alone will be of more than Rs 800 crore and it will employ 10,000.
