Noida rides the Metro

On Friday, the first day of the Metro’s new Yamuna Bank-Noida City Centre Sector 32 line, people flocked the trains as if there was no tomorrow.

On Friday, the first day of the Metro’s new Yamuna Bank-Noida City Centre Sector 32 line, people flocked the trains as if there was no tomorrow.

Special counters to dispense smart cards were set up at Noida City Centre Sector 32.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) officials said ridership on the new section was recorded at 73,797 by 6 p.m.

The revenue earned — Rs 9.69 lakh.

There was brisk sale of smart cards and tokens at all other Metro stations in Noida.

City Centre Sector 32 station, Botanical Garden station and Noida Sector 18 stations saw the maximum footfalls with people headed towards Akshardham, Connaught Place, Dwarka and even Delhi University.

Sharad Agrawal (35), an advocate travelling from Janakpuri (East) to Noida Sector 18 said: “Metro travel will save a lot of time and I think the quality of travel will also improve.”

Savings is on top of Dr Surender Singh Duhoon’s mind. This retired professor travels twice a month to Pusa Institute and thinks this is going to be economical.

Said Manisha Kashyap (25), a PR executive, who travels from Noida Sector 25 to CP daily, “Although it will be a little costly compared with my bus travel, I would anytime prefer this as it is safe — I always return home after 8.30 p.m.”
