“We at Left, are trying for an alternative at the Centre. For this change we are working and continue to work," Bardhan said.

“The Grand Alliance of TDP, TRS, CPI(M) and CPI in Andhra Pradesh and all the other alliances we have forged in different states are trying out for this at the Centre,” Bardhan told reporters at Meet-the-Press programme organised by Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists in Hyderabad.

He alleged that both Congress-led UPA and BJP-led NDA had not fulfilled expectations raised. “In 2004, people voted out the BJP and now its the turn of Congress,” he predicted.

“Our goals will be realised after the polls, notwithstanding all types of surveys that are engineered by certain political parties.

“We do not believe in a two-party system that Congress and BJP want to impose on our country,” he said.
