A bright sunshine greeted residents of the northern plains today even as the minimum temperature remained above normal by upto five degrees at various places.

A bright sunshine greeted residents of the northern plains today even as the minimum temperature remained above normal by upto five degrees at various places.

Amritsar, however, saw a decline in the minimum temperature to 5.1 degrees, which was normal, from 5.4 degrees yesterday making it the coldest place in the region, a weather office spokesman said here.

Ludhiana and Patiala in Punjab recorded 9.8 degrees and 11.1 degrees today, up from 7.9 degree and 5.8 degree recorded yesterday.The minimum temperature at both the places was three degrees above normal.

Hissar in Haryana had the maximum upward variation in the minimum temperature as the town recorded 11.2 degree which was five degrees above normal.

The minimum temperatures at other places in the state including Ambala 10.2 degrees, Karnal 10.5 degrees and Narnaul 7 degrees and Bhiwani 8.2 degrees were also above normal by up to four degrees.

The minimum temperature in Chandigarh rose to 11.2 degrees, four degrees above normal, from 10.6 degrees registered on Tuesday.
