The nominations of two candidates, Somvir and Neeraj, were rejected on Tuesday as their names do not figure in the voters’ list. With this, the total number of contestants in the fray stands at 454. Somvir had filed papers from ward number 9, while Neeraj was to contest from ward number 19.
All the independent candidates are likely to be allotted election symbols by the election commission on Wednesday.
A maximum of 21 candidates will contest from ward number 23. Ward numbers 8 and 11 have the minimum number of contenders.
Only six persons have filed nominations from these wards.
It is surprising that the biggest ward, ward number 34, has drawn only eight nominations, while the smallest, ward number 4, has received 12 nominations.
Polling booths have been allocated, considering the population of each ward, said returning officer-cum-additional deputy commissioner VS Hooda. He added that a building in a ward can house one to eight polling stations, depending upon the space.
Ward numbers 12, 17, 19 and 34 have 18 booths, while ward number 4 will has only four.
There are 17 polling stations each in ward numbers 1, 5, 18, 21 and 33, 10 each in ward numbers 2, 15, 26 and 35, 11 each in ward numbers 8, 24 and 25, and ward numbers 16, 20, 22 and 27 have 8 booths each.
