Not yet time to withdraw support: CPI(M)

Left would not pull down the ruling coalition on petro price hike though it would take a aggressive stand.

Left parties would not pull down the ruling coalition at the Centre on petro products price hike issue though it would be aggressive against UPA government's 'violations' of CMP in economic matters, CPI(M) Politburo member Biman Bose said on Tuesday.

"We will deliver the government a blow (on the petro products hike issue). It might happen that allies of UPA will come out to oppose the government's policies. But the time has not come to withdraw support to the government," Bose, who is also the chairman of ruling Left Front in West Bengal told reporters.

He said the issue of increasing the transport fare in West Bengal in the light of the hike in diesel price was not on the agenda of the Left Front at the moment and "we are not going to discuss it at tomorrow's meeting."

Bose's remarks came as Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee, at a separate press conference here today, accused the CPI(M), which together with other Left parties provide crucial outside support to the UPA government, of enacting a drama in calling for agitation over the price rise of petrol and diesel.
