Launched a couple of months ago, Chennai-based website

Thirungangai.net

is a matrimonial website that helps such women find the right man. “Transsexual women by birth may not be physically women, but by soul and heart we are real women,” says the homepage of the website.

Available in Tamil and English, the website has been created by an NGO called the Sahodari Foundation that works towards the upliftment of transsexuals.

Director Kalki Subramniam says on the site, “We have received more than 400 emails from all over the world in response to the launch. We have also received more than 200 proposals.” She adds that though a lot of the proposals thus far have been one or two liners, almost 50 of them were genuine. “Men who have proposed are not only from India but also from countries like the USA, UK, Switzerland, Netherlands, France and the middle east. There are proposals from businessmen, IT professionals, students, lawyers, doctors and even one scientist.” She says that they are currently screening the proposals and the first transsexual/ eunuch wedding will be held on Valentine’s Day, February 14, next year.
