Another militant outfit, Harkat-ul-Mujahideen also claimed responsibility of the Lal Chowk attack. Claiming himself to be a spokesman of the outfit, Hassan Taskari in a faxed message to Kashmir News Serivice, a wire service, claimed two militants were involved in the attack. “One militant is from across the border and another from Sopore,” he claimed.

“There has been increase in security forces’ suppression in Kashmir. This attack is in revenge to that…In year 2010, we will increase militant attacks in Jammu and Kashmir,” said Taskari.
A police source said there are reports that JuM and HuM is working in coordination of late and share logical support to each other.
