Those approaching police to trace missing minors will now find it easier to get FIRs registered in the national capital, with Delhi Police making it mandatory for the registration of such cases.
According to a standing order issued by City Police Commissioner Y S Dadwal, instructions have been issued to register FIRs in each incident of untraced girl child of 18 years or below and untraced boys of 12 years or below.
The Commissioner has also asked policemen to register FIRs in case of a missing person reports lodged in the past three years in a order issued on March 18, a senior police official told PTI.
Presently, FIRs are not registered in such incidents and only a missing person report is filed.
There are 687 girls below 18 years and 252 boys below the age of 12 years who went missing since 2006 and are yet to be traced. During this period, around 20,000 minors went missing out of which 1,461 are yet to be traced.
Police is also setting up a Missing Person Desk at all police stations in the capital besides maintaining files on missing persons, Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat said.
