AFTER UNEMPLOYMENT allowance to the youths and Kanya Vidya Dhan Yojana to the girls, Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav offered another pre-election sop – Rs 500 monthly pension to the Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA) and Defence of India Rules (DIR).detainees of the Emergency period. He has already announced distribution of two sarees each for under-privileged women.

At a function organised on Saturday to honour the MISA and DIR detainees, cheques were distributed among 5,642 political prisoners. An identity card will be given to all MISA and DIR detainees and they will also get free treatment.

Speaking on the occasion Yadav said the Congress should seek an apology from the people for imposing Emergency.

Terming Emergency as murder of democracy, Yadav said 31 years had passed since Indira Gandhi imposed Emergency but Congress was not ready to accept the mistake committed during the period. The history could be repeated again, he cautioned and added that some forces were trying to weaken democracy.

He said a conspiracy was being hatched to destabilise his government.

Training guns on multinational companies, Yadav said the “big fight” of the country was to retain its economic independence.
