Panda moved an application under Section 156 (3) of the Cr. PC in the court of additional chief judicial magistrate Sudhanshu Bhatnagar and submitted that he had been subjected to utmost cruelty by his wife. He alleged that his ‘nath’ (nose-pin) was snatched so forcefully that the nose bled profusely. His ‘Bali’ (ear-ring) was also snatched and the ear bled.

He complained that his phone had been tapped by his wife and some of her journalist friends. He also alleged that she had taken away his official documents and a licensed DBBL gun, but circle officer Man Singh did not take any action, despite written complaints.

The former IG complained that he had been beaten several times by Veena and she had always been ‘nishthur’ (cruel) to her to the extent that she attacked her in the presence of strangers. He submitted that he approached the top police administration, including the SSP Lucknow and the DGP, in writing, but as all his pleas fell on deaf ears, he had no option but to knock at the doors of the court for justice.
