THE STATE Government on Thursday announced it would terminate the services of the Shiksha Mitras against whom the Lucknow police had registered an FIR for launching an agitation.
While police have already arrested 27 Shiksha Mitras, a hunt is on for seven persons.
Addressing officers of the department here on Thursday, Basic Education Minister Kiran Pal Singh said nearly 1000 Shiksha Mitras from all over the State participated in a stir in Lucknow. He said stern disciplinary action would be taken against them. However, the minister said the government was looking into their demands. Apart from other issues, the Shiksha Mitras were demanding transfer of their salary to banks and not disbursement through village pradhans. The minister said the basic purpose of appointment of Shiksha Mitras was to tide over the shortage of teachers in schools. But they had resorted to an agitation in Lucknow, which would not be tolerated, he said.
Referring to appointment of 5,000 more Urdu BTC teachers, the minister said Urdu as a subject had been made compulsory in two of the three examinations –High School, Intermediate and graduation.
He said a government order had been issued in this connection and the selection process would soon begin. In the past, there was no condition for candidates, which led to recruitment of a large number of non-Urdu candidates.

{{/usCountry}}The minister said the midday meal scheme was not being properly implemented. He said officers, who visited several districts, had found irregularities in its implementation. Singh said action would be taken against erring officers. The minister said a task force would be constituted to monitor the scheme.
The minister also issued instructions to take action against the teachers who did not turn up at schools on September 5. He said the government had also decided to include 1000 schools on grant list. Such schools had their own building with at least 105 students and a pass per cent of not less than 45.
