NRIs contribute to Andhra development projects

Govt has set up Andhra Pradesh Development Council of America (APDCA) to attract NRI and American investors.

Non-Resident Indians (NRI) hailing from Andhra Pradesh have come forward with generous contributions to the development schemes in the state, as the government steps up efforts to tap potential investors among them.

The state government has set up Andhra Pradesh Development Council of America (APDCA) to attract potential NRI and American investors. Mallu Ravi, special representative of Andhra Pradesh government in Delhi, formally launched the council Saturday at Long Island, near New York city.

Donations started pouring in after the inaugural session of APDCA, said an official statement here.

Surapaneni Rajanikanth, a physician, announced Rs.5 million towards eye care for the poor and deserving patients in the state. Paila Malla Reddy, also a physician, announced $5,000 towards relief and rehabilitation of cyclone victims in the state. Srikant Aitharaju of Dataformix Technologies Inc. and Srihari Vutukuri of Lorven Pharmacy announced $1,016 towards cyclone relief.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy on Sunday directed his officials to highlight the developmental works undertaken by the state government during the APDCA convention.

Reddy said the state government planned to make use of natural gas available in the Krishna Godavari basin for the development of industries. He also stressed on creating port-based special economic zones connected by natural gas grid, infrastructure development for setting up of industries through public-private partnership.
