NSCN (I-M) has asked its cadres neither to participate nor interfere in the coming elections to Municipal bodies in Nagaland, putting to rest speculation that the outfit was planning to disrupt the polls.
Simultaneous polling will be held for two Municipal councils of Kohima and Dimapur and 16 town councils on December 8 after enactment of new Municipal laws last year. Filing of nominations was over on November 20.
The outfit, in a statement issued on Sunday, also warned stern action against any cadre found involved in the election process.
It also urged agents of various political parties to report to NSCN (I-M) higher authorities if any of its cadres was found interfering in the poll process.
Political parties had charged the underground outfits of interfering in the last assembly and parliamentary elections in the state.
Meanwhile, fierce protest against the amended Municipal act forced the State Election Commission to cancel the Municipal Council election at Mokokchung town as no candidate had filed nominations before the deadline.
Landowners Association of Mokokchung did not allow any contender to file his/her papers protesting a provision in the new act, which empowers municipal bodies to impose land tax, official sources said.
