THE STATE secretary of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) Sunil Upadhyaya has decided to walk barefoot until the vice-chancellor of Barkatullah University Prof RS Sirohi is removed from his post. Alleging that the Vice-Chancellor was involved in various irregularities he demanded his immediate removal.
Upadhayay particularly referred to the university’s decision to collect Rs 250 as degree fees from final year undergraduate and postgraduate students, without making a provision to return fees to those students who failed. He said students were already facing lots of problems trying to deposit exam fees and the degree fee was an additional burden for them.
He said fees could be collected after announcement of results from the students who pass. The NSUI office-bearer also pointed out that teachers of particular subjects were being made to teach other subjects and had even been made heads of departments of other subjects and gave the example of Anil Prakash and Kirti Singh who were from the Botany faculty yet had been placed in the Biotechnology and Microbiology Department.
Even after collecting huge fees, the university was not able to provide expert faculty for important subjects, which was the failure of the administration, he said. He also alleged that legal action had not yet been initiated against Dr Akhilesh Sharma of the Sports Department and there was no progress in the stadium construction work.

{{/usCountry}}Upadhyaya also said students faced a lot of problems with the confidential section, as marks were not increased unless the students demanded to see the answer sheets personally.
All this was being done by officials who were under the V-C’s protection, he charged, warning if the V-C was not removed soon, the NSUI would launch an agitation.
