NTPC unit synchronised

THE NATIONAL Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) synchronised the fifth unit of its Feroz Gandhi Unchahar Thermal Power Project on Friday.

With the syncronisation of the new 210 mw unit, the installed capacity of the project has risen from 840 mw to 1050 mw. This has brought the project on the list of the super thermal power projects. The States that will benefit from the extension include Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Chandigarh, J&K and Himachal Pradesh apart from UP.

According to project general manager Kalyan Kumar Panda, the project was taken over by NTPC from UP Government on February 13, 1992. The installed capacity of project was then only 420 mw. The project has the distinction of having received the Asian Power Plant of the Year Award-2006, at a function in Hong Kong, recently. The project has also been given the Swarn Shakti Awards in the areas of Safety and Project Management for best performance in 2004-05 amongst all NTPC stations. The project has also bagged SA-8000:2001 certification for performing as a ‘Socially Responsible’ station.
