fore survey. Two out of five (39 per cent) users said that they would change their service provider if they could retain their numbers.
MNP is likely to be implemented in India by the middle of this year in the four metros. Later, it will be expanded to other cities.
In most countries, MNP has resulted in a churn of about only about 5-7 per cent per annum. For example, in Singapore, the first market to implement MNP, the churn in the first six years was 0.4 per cent per annum.
In UK, about 5 per cent of the subscribers churned in first six years. In Australia, the number stands at 7 per cent per annum.
Number portability will help ensure a better quality of services, Department of Telecommunications secretary Siddhartha Behura told Hindustan Times.
