Expressing displeasure at the intransigence of the Joint Action Committee, the Delhi High Court on Wednesday granted a week's time to managements of private schools to evolve an alternative policy to dispense with the system of interviewing nursery kids and their parents during admissions.
A Division Bench of Acting Chief Justice Vijender Jain and Justice Kailash Ghambhir, asked the committee to come out with a substantive admission policy that is "fair" and "transparent."
"You have already taken a year, how much more time do you require," the Bench queried the counsels appearing for various school managements.
The remarks followed the repeated requests for time by the managements for evolving an alternative policy.
The bench rejected the submission by one of the counsel that if admissions are granted by draw of lots or first cum-first served basis, it would put an obligation on the managements to provide admissions even to deaf and dumb children.
The court pointed out that such a hypothesis might not be possible as the admission forms can always have a Performa to verify whether a kid suffers from any physical disability.
Justice Jain also remarked that everyone was aware as to how the managements grant admissions to kids whose parents have high connections in society.

{{/usCountry}}However, when the counsels pleaded that they be given one more week time to come out with a suitable admission policy, the Bench agreed for the same.
Advocate Ashok Agarwal had earlier filed a PIL in the court seeking a ban on the practice of interviewing kids and parents by school managements while granting admissions in the nursery classes.
