ABOUT 150 nurses and ward sisters broke open the lock of a family quarter of nursing hostel matron/housekeeper Ratna in the Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital on Saturday to give its possession to staff nurse Geeta Singh.

The quarter was allotted to Geeta Singh about one month back after she requested the senior matron for another room on the hospital campus. It was being planned to demolish her previous residence adjacent to the mortuary under the ‘mortuary renovation plan’.

She was allotted Ratna’s family quarter near the nursing hostel and she was directed to shift to the nursing hostel where she reportedly occupied a room.

“However, despite repeated orders given by the SRN Hospital superintendent-in-charge, Ratna failed to hand over the keys to Geeta Singh, due to which she was facing a lot of inconvenience. Today, after taking formal permission from the hospital management, we opened the lock of Ratna’s quarter and gave its possession to Geeta Singh. Moreover, Ratna should stay in the nursing hotel for the safety of inmates,” said Safia Khatun, district president of the Nurses’ Association.
