An objection was on Thursday raised with the Election Department against use of a photo of Mahatma Gandhi in an election campaign advertisement issued by the Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee in Jaipur.
The pictorial depiction of Gandhiji in the newspaper advertisement violates section three of the Emblems and Names (prevention of improper use) Act, 1950, Rashtriya Gaurav Sanrakshan Parishad chairman Gyan Prakash Qamra said in a written complaint to the Election Department in Jaipur.
Mahatma Gandhi's name or his pictorial representation cannot be allowed for the purpose of calling on people by a political party and, therefore, the Election Department should take action against the same, he requested.
Qamra made written and personal representation to the Election Department officials by presenting a copy of a local daily of November 17 in which the advertisement was published.
The advertisement carried photographs of Mahatma Gandhi, BR Amberkar, Jawaharlal Nehru and other Congress Prime Ministers and slogan "Congress ki kya pahchan, tyag tapasya aur balidan."
Qamra later told reporters that officials have assured him that they would look into the matter.
