The team sealed about 14 tubewells which were allegedly dug by property owners for construction purposes.

Constructions are prohibited around 900 metres of an ammunition depot.

The team, headed by district town planner (enforcement) Dilbag Singh and JE Kalyan Singh Sandhu, had sealed six tubewells on Tuesday also.

“We have been taking all steps to prevent illegal constructions in the restricted area,” said Dilbag Singh.

Earlier, the apex court had given some relief to the property owners, after they appealed against a Punjab and Haryana high court directive that all constructions within a 900-metre radius of the ammunition depot be demolished.

The SC had then directed that status quo be maintained for the time being. The officials also sent show-cause notices to property owners.

Meanwhile, affected residents have decided to seek the removal of the ammunition depot from Gurgaon.

The recent Supreme Court ruling has given them a ray of hope. The president of the Gurgaon Citizens’ Council, RS Rathee, said, “We will now approach the Supreme Court with a plea to issue directions to the defence ministry for relocation of the depot.”

The council has already sent letters to the Haryana chief minister, chief secretary, Huda chief administrator, police commissioner and other senior officials explaining their position.

The council, meanwhile, has demanded that the MCG regularise the residential areas around the ammunition depot.
