Chaitanya Kalbag’s article Calcutta is forever (June 21) made me feel nostalgic about the city and its wonders, the Coffee House, the trams, bus conductors, the adda and tea for 50 paise and lots more. I went to Calcutta a few months ago after a long gap and I was amazed to see the changes, malls, pubs, KFCs, Baristas and the Cafe Coffee Days are all over the city. Yet what I love about the city is the coexistence of the past and the present. You wrote that the old Calcutta sheds its skin slowly. But I don’t think Calcutta will completely shed its old skin ever.

I thoroughly enjoyed the piece on Calcutta. Those living outside the city will appreciate that in some corner of the globe a city like that still exists. Your piece reaffirms the same.

After a very long time the morning cup of tea had the added aroma of a fragrant centrespread - Calcutta is forever. Wish there could be more.
