The decision was made public during a meeting between OIC special representative on Kashmir Abdul Aleem and moderate All Parties Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in Saudi Arabia’s capital Jeddah on Tuesday.

For the first time, the Independent Human Rights Commission of OIC will soon publish a detailed report on the human rights and political scenario in Jammu and Kashmir.

Besides, a special advisor will be selected to highlight the political importance of the Kashmir issue and for better coordination with the Kashmiri separatists.

“The special representative reiterated OIC’s support to the Kashmir cause and said it would soon devise a comprehensive strategy to highlight the genuine demands of Kashmiris on international level,” said a statement issued by the Mirwaiz in Srinagar.

“For perpetual regional peace, the OIC has to give priority to Kashmir issue,” the spokesman quoted the Mirwaiz telling the special representative.

India has always taken exception to OIC’s intervention in the past in the Kashmir problem saying “it has no locus standi on the issue”.
