Old City walled up

The Old City has been fortified by the administration here in view of the 'Ashura' (the 10th day of Moharram) on Thursday. The administration and police officers held a late night meeting at the Chowk Kotwali police station here on Wednesday to give last minute instructions to the officers and assess the law and order situation.

The Old City has been fortified by the administration here in view of the 'Ashura' (the 10th day of Moharram) on Thursday. The administration and police officers held a late night meeting at the Chowk Kotwali police station here on Wednesday to give last minute instructions to the officers and assess the law and order situation.

Police and paramilitary forces have been deployed in requisite strength both on the ground and on the rooftop of certain houses in sensitive areas along the procession route.

Barricades have been erected and restrictions on the movement of traffic have been made on the procession route. The procession would commence at 10 am from Nazim Sahib ka Imambara.

According to administration officials, the entire event would be recorded by over two-dozen video cameras.

The Old City has been divided into 26 sectors and 19 companies of PAC and two companies of Rapid Action Force have been deployed in the region.

In addition to this 1,000 constables, 120 head constables, 469 sub-inspectors, 45 circle officers and 13 additional superintendents of police have also been posted to supervise security arrangements.
