The opposition National Conference (NC) has predicted that the present Congress-PDP government in Jammu and Kashmir would fall within next six months. Omar Abdullah, president of the National Conference on Tuesday said that the Congress and PDP have made the transfer of officers and bureaucrats a “business” which has resulted in confrontation, mutual distrust and conflict within the coalition partners.
The NC president’s assertions came in the wake of reported verbal dual between Congress and PDP ministers during cabinet meeting in Jammu on Monday. The issue of transfer of senior officers in the state administration was reported the cause of bitterness in the cabinet. Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad had reportedly threatened to go for fresh polls rather than to continue with the bickering and squabbling.
“The coalition government is ridden with serious rift. It will not run for more than six months now on. They have made the transfer of officers a trade”, he told a largely-attended public meeting at Khiram in former chief minister and PDP patriarch Mufti Mohammad’s home constituency Bijbehara on Tuesday.
Omar Abdullah chose the occasion to come hammer and tongs with Mufti and accused him of misleading the people of Jammu and Kashmir. “Mien mufti sahab ke ghar ke samne khada ho kar kahtan hoon ki onki sarkar mein logon ko koi rahat nahi milli. Rishwat mein izafa howa hai and insaani haqooq ki pamaali bhad gai hai” ( I declare it just in front of Mufti Sahab’s house that people have suffered worse in the three years of his rule. Corruption and human rights violations have increased drastically), he alleged amid a thunderous applause from the audience.
Omar also accused Muftis’ government of killing all the five commanders of Hizbul Mujahideen, who had held dialogue with the central government in July 2000. “We had succeeded in bringing Hizbul Mujahideen on dialogue table but all the five commanders of Hizbul Mujahideen (who had held dialogue with the central government) were killed later”, the NC president said.

{{/usCountry}}He said that his party stood for peaceful and respectable solution of Jammu and Kashmir issue. “We believe that such solution would be beginning of a new era of peace and development for our people”, Omar added. He appealed to the leadership of India and Pakistan to take meaningful and result-oriented initiatives to resolve the issue of Jammu and Kashmir so that the ongoing bloodshed could end in Jammu and Kashmir.
A battery of other National Conference leaders including former minister and MLA Ali Mohammad Sagar, Abdul Gani Veeri and Irfan Shah also addressed the meeting.
