The National Conference (NC) on Thursday praised chief minister Omar Abdullah saying he believes in empowering the common man.
“Omar had proven beyond doubt that he was an incorruptible and visionary leader who believes in empowering the common man to ask questions of the government,’’ the NC said in a press statement.
NC additional general secretary Sheikh Mustafa Kamal said the NC, under the leadership of Omar had eradicated corruption from the state by bringing in the RTI Act and constituting the State Vigilance Commission and bringing the State Accountability Commission back from the dead after the PDP ensured that all corruption watchdogs in the state were rendered dysfunctional during their tenure.
“Accountability and transparency has been the hallmark of this tenure and in Omar Abdullah, J&K has found a leader who believes in politics as a means to an end, not an end in itself. Politics to our party is a means to bring about change, empower the dis-empowered and liberalise power by historic decentralisation initiatives like the panchayati raj system,” Kamal said.
Kamal said that in the coming elections, the people of J&K - especially its youth - have a clear cut and simple choice - on one hand they have National Conference led by Omar Abdullah and guided by the highest standards of transparency and accountability and on the other hand they have the PDP which plunged the state into record-breaking corruption, loot and plunder during their brief tenure at the helm. “The PDP made J&K the most corrupt state in the country within a span of three years as almost all its cabinet ministers were found involved in huge scams, bungling and misappropriation of public money. One of its MPs has been found involved in a land-grab scam in Srinagar while its former ministers did everything from transferring land to the Shrine Board in contravention of regulations and rules to overseeing the backdoor appointments of thousands of individuals in lieu of money in critical departments and ministries”, Kamal said.
