National Conference (NC) president Omar Abdullah came under attack on Monday when militants lobbed two grenades at a house he was visiting at Qaziabad in Kupwara. However, he escaped unhurt as the grenades exploded about 300 metres away. However, three CRPF personnel and a special police officer were injured.
The police said Abdullah had stopped at the house of an NC activist for tea after addressing a public rally in Qaziabad. The militants reportedly targeted the house within five minutes of his entering it. “Two grenades were tossed towards the house. It appears the grenades were fired from a rifle from a distance. We are investigating what exactly happened,” said a police spokesperson.
Dr Mahboob Beg, MLA and NC provincial president, who was accompanying Abdullah, said: “After the public rally, one of our party activists invited us for tea. In the meantime we heard the sound of blasts. We were told by the police and people later that grenade blasts had occurred in the vicinity of the house. We are all safe. There is nothing to worry about.”

{{/usCountry}}The entire area was immediately cordoned off and a hunt was launched to nab the militants involved in the attack. No militant outfit has claimed responsibility so far.
