Five of us friends would like to go to the Bandipur National Park. Please guide me as to where to stay. What are the good accommodation options available in the jungle?

Well, it all depends on whether you want to enjoy a jungle safari or you just want to relax in the wilderness. If you want to enjoy a safari, you should head to the state government-owned Jungle Lodge. The cost includes stay, multiple safari rides and boarding too. You can also go to Cicada or Tusker Trails, which have great facilities to stay but you will have to pay separately for the jungle safari. During my 2-day stay at the Jungle Lodge, I went for a jungle safari four times, had a lovely cottage to stay in and excellent food to eat. For all this, I paid Rs 12,000 for me and my family.
I want to go to Dharamshala from Delhi by car. Is there any place on the way where we could stay the night? What’s more comfortable, car or train?

I would suggest you take the Delhi — Ambala — Ludhiana — Phagwara route. Take a right from Phagwara, reach Hoshiarpur and then go to Kangra via Chintpurni and Jwalaji. Dharamshala is around 20 km from Kangra. If you start at about 5 or 6 am from Delhi, you can reach Phagwara by noon. From there, Dharamshala is only a comfortable, four hour drive.
The road from Panipat to Phagwara is being made into a six laned one so you have to take a bit of a diversion. From Phagwara to Hoshiarpur, it’s a two-lane road and thereafter, it’s a light mountainous road that’s in good condition. Don’t halt for the night. The road is good, so head straight to Dharmshala and McLeodganj and don’t forget to check Palampur on the way back. It’s just 20-30 km from Dharamshala and you can reach Kangra via Palampur. Dharamshala to Palampur is a very picturesque route with lots of tea estates around.
