Motorists may face diversions and snarls on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway on Wednesday as huge turnout of devotees is expected in a mosque on the route on account of Eid-ul-Fitr. It has been the experience that the crowd spills onto the expressway as the mosque near Rajiv Chowk could not accommodate huge turnout.
The congregation is likely to block the main carriageway and service lanes of the expressway.
Though police are prepared to deal with any situation and have made diversions to ensure smooth flow of traffic, Rajiv Chowk flyover on the expressway will be blocked for traffic from 7.30am to 11am. Vehicles coming from Delhi and Jaipur will have to take alternative routes.
Delhi-bound vehicles will be diverted from Hero Honda Chowk towards Pataudi Road through Sector 10A. Vehicles coming from Delhi and going towards Jaipur have to take left turn at Rajiv Chowk towards Bhakhtawar Chowk and can take right turn at Netaji Subhash crossing to reach Expressway at Hero Honda Crossing.
"Every year, thousands of people turn up at the Eidgah. The mosque is not big enough to accommodate them all," said a senior police official.
He said there was a plan to construct a multi-storey mosque but due to a number of reasons that could not be carried out.

{{/usCountry}}"We are prepared to deal with traffic chaos, however due to the holidays there will be less traffic. There will be tight security arrangements across the city," said SS Deswal, Gurgaon police commissioner.
