This statement by the BJP’s K.V. Singhdeo, former Urban Development minister of Orissa, which was published in RSS mouthpiece Organiser, is bound to leave his party red-faced.

The Organiser was publishing this issue — now out on stands — at a time when the BJD decided to ditch its 11-year ally the BJP and court the Left.

Singhdeo — a scion of the Bolangir royal family — also says the alliance will sweep the elections for a record third time.

To a question over media reports that the alliance was going through a rough time on issues like seat-adjustment, Singhdeo exudes both confidence and contempt for the media.

“There is an old story about the media that the truth is on the sports pages, half-truths in the weather columns and the rest is all lies. Now you know whether we are facing a good time or a very good time. Let us recognise the fact that the partners in the coalition — the BJD and BJP — have seamlessly complemented each other’s popularity. This will be vindicated in the results of the forthcoming elections.”
