The Bolpur heavyweight, along with several other local intellectuals and influential people, have requested the citizens to cast their votes for the formation of eight Left Front government.

On Tuesday, a leaflet was circulated among various newspapers in and around Santiniketan, requesting people to cast their votes in favour of the Left government for more peace, stability and development.

Apart from the former speaker of Lok Sabha, the two-page leaflet carries 60 signatures - including that of Chatterjee's wife Renu Chatterjee, Tagore expert Somendranath Banerjee, Ashramite Supriyo Tagore, professor Sudhir Bhattacharya, Bratin Sen, Nabakumar Mukherjee, professor Bela Basu, and Tarachand Murmu.

"For development of the state, stability and peace is much needed. The Left Front government has provided that to the people of the state," read the leaflet. "Through land reformation and land distribution among landless people, by introducing panchayat system, Left Front government has give power to the weaker section of the society."

Describing the ongoing trouble and political disturbances, the intellectuals requested the citizens to cast vote for the Left Front for stability, peace and development of the state.
